Great Strides (and sips)

Enough of these English writers! I'll now update you in the American vernacular, one raised on the sparseness of Hemingway, Steinbeck, Seuss (Dr.) and Schultz (Charles).

Bev made three full laps of the 8th floor today chased with three solid sips of water. Being upright and walking is great, but its keeping down the liquids that is key to busting out of this joint. The whitecoats would like to see her drinking 2 liters (not litres!) a day before discharge - (before Bev's discharge, not the liters). Bev's counts are good and continue to improve. The pain meds have been reduced and continue to be reduced daily, lessening the vivid and talkative dreams. The pain has largely left, but the mucositis (look it up), fatigue and a bit of achiness persists.

All in all, this still sucks, but it's sucking less and less everyday. No deadlines for release have been set, nor have causes for alarm been perceived and spoken by the doctors. They all agree that Bev may just wake up one morning and feel remarkably better. Let's all pray for that morning.

On to greater strides and larger sips.

Love,
Tom

Three full laps and three solid sips - Dr. Suess couldn't write a better headline. Since you mention our American classic, I thought a few verses from "Oh, The Place You'll Go" would be a appropriate:

And when you're alone, there's a very good chance
you'll meet things that scare you right out of your pants.
There are some, down the road between hither and yon,
that can scare you so much you won't want to go on.

But on you will go
though the weather be foul
On you will go
though your enemies prowl
On you will go
though the Hakken-Kraks howl
Onward up many
a frightening creek,
though your arms may get sore
and your sneakers may leak.

On and on you will hike
and I know you'll hike far
and face up to your problems
whatever they are.

You'll get mixed up, of course,
as you already know.
You'll get mixed up
with many strange birds as you go.
So be sure when you step.
Step with care and great tact
and remember that Life's
a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with your left.

And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!

KID, YOU'LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!

hi bunny,my visit to managemucositis.com suggested relaxation imagery, so here we go:
you, tom, a beach, cold rum drinks that you can do more than sip, archie in the waves...plus ceviche and coconut ice cream around your own negative edge pool at your cabana.
feel good and manage a sip and lap for us, xxl and all

Hoping that this bright and sunny Tuesday will bring that special morning ever closer for Bev....

For me doing laps also involves drinking water - but normally out of the pool as I struggle to get to the other side!

Sounds like Bev is really getting there on the "up and at um" front, and I hope her ability to keep the water down is a sign that the mucositis is improving and that a Mexican dinner with a Margerita chaser is not too far away.

Big love from across the pond (since I have lived on both sides I have no problem "translating" either the American or English offerings - it is just great to keep up with Bev's progress - thanks to everyone for this).
